Keeping it Native

Appalachian State began their endeavor on constructing the University’s largest building to date. Located in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and Boone Creek, there was a strong aspiration for a design that incorporated the University’s surround.

By chance, there were a few historic trees that needed cut down as they were no longer deemed safe. The trees, located about 25 miles from campus, were cut down and the live cut slabs were then shipped to Eleven Fifty Seven to be incorporated within the display. River rock was also incorporated into the design, which emphasized a general flow of the local Creek’s pattern. These native elements resulted in a stunning combination elevating the facility and its recognition.
